Agenda Highlights 10/29/24
At the Fort Smith Board of Directors study session meeting scheduled for 10-29-24, the Board will hear the yearly update on the convention center from Shura Garnett with the Oak View Group and Convention Center General Manager Shannon Davis. The discussion will include conversations about possibly allowing the convention center to provide outside catering and the convention center’s progress on bringing in Broadway shows.
The Board will discuss the Solid Waste Department’s 10 year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). The plan for 2025 includes replacements for a cart delivery vehicle, a half-ton pickup, 2 commercial front-loading garbage trucks, commercial and industrial waste containers, a forklift, 2 lawnmowers, a 1 1/2 ton service truck, 2 side-by-sides, a backhoe, and a crew cab truck. The plan for 2025 also includes the purchase of a haul truck instead of continuing to rent one.
The Board will discuss the Police Department’s 5 year Personnel and Capital Improvement Plan. The plan for 2025 includes purchase of 10 additional Flock automatic license plate readers, a renewed contract with Axion for body and dash cameras and tasers, purchase of optical gun sights, renovations to the former Crain Kia building to turn it into a police training facility, improvements to the firing range, and improvements to the downtown police station. The plan for 2025 also includes replacements for guns, a motorcycle, and patrol vehicles.
The Board will discuss the Critical Water Projects for 2025 and the 10 year water CIP.
The Board will discuss the 2025 Critical Non-Consent Decree Wastewater CIP and also future non-consent decree wastewater CIP projects.
The Board will discuss the consent decree wastewater CIP.
The Board will discuss water rate changes. On October 22, Administration and Utilities met together with a rate design consultant to design possible rate structures. The results of that meeting will be presented and discussed at the 11-12-24 study session meeting on irrigation meter rates.
The Board will discuss the recent odor caused by activities by Denali Water Solutions. The original intention of the Board was to have representatives from Denali in attendance at this meeting to address the Board and answer questions regarding the bad smell issue. Denali was invited to attend, but because they are currently engaged in a lawsuit related to the matter, they have declined to attend.
